Stephen Colbert just witnessed the start of Eric Swalwell’s U.S. presidential campaign.

The California representative announced his White House bid on Monday’s episode of Global’s “The Late Show”. “You’ve been very critical of President Trump,” Colbert said. “You’ve called him a wrecking ball, a Russian agent.”

“I see a country in quicksand, unable to solve problems and threats from abroad, unable to make life better for people here at home,” Swalwell replied. “I’m ready to solve these problems. I’m running for president of the United States,” he announced. “Boy, did it feel good to say that!”

Colbert congratulated Swalwell with a pin reading, “I Announced on ‘The Late Show’ with Stephen Colbert.”

Back in January, New York Senator Kirsten Gillibrand announced her candidacy on the late-night talk show and received one of Colbert’s coveted pins. “The Late Show” is the first TV show to have two candidates announce their 2020 White House bids.
