A “Jeopardy!” contestant just went home $110,000 richer, and now holds bragging rights for setting a new single-game winnings record.
As Deadspin reports, contestant James Holzhauer made a big bet that paid off handsomely when he answered the Final Jeopardy! question, “Ironically, it’s a metaphor, meaning a huge step forward, but this two-word process only occurs at the atomic level.”

While plenty of viewers were no doubt scratching their heads at that one, Holzhauer correctly wrote down “WHAT IS QUANTUM LEAP?” Wagering $38,314, he catapulted his single-game winnings to $110,914, easily beating the previous single-day record set when contestant Roger Craig won $77,000 in a single game back in 2010.
And that wasn’t the only record Holzhauer shattered; he also set a new four-day record, totalling a whopping $244,465.

Meanwhile, there was nothing random about the amount of Holzhauer’s wager; the clever contestant was so sure his answer was correct that he wagered the exact amount that would see him end up with $110,914 — which, Deadspin notes, is the birthdate of his daughter: 11-09-14.
