Creed frontman Scott Stapp relives some difficult memories in his new music video for “Purpose for Pain”.
The musician’s latest track is taken from his third solo LP The Space Between The Shadows and the vid sees actor Omar Mughannam portray a “young Scott.”
A press release reads, “[The young boy] runs down a lonely road, his journey goes from bad to worse when he is offered a chemical ‘solution’ for his pain, but refuses, knowing there’s a purpose for his life outside of the struggles he’s enduring.
“He then arrives at a makeshift fort he’s created where he’s covered the walls with pictures of his dreams, his hopes, and hand-written reminders to keep believing and stay strong.”
Stapp said in a statement: “I’ve learned you can make it through the most difficult struggles and tragedies in life by trying to see a higher meaning within your situation.”
He added, according to Rolling Stone: “Finding it can give you just enough hope to hang on and live to fight another day. Learning from my past, instead of succumbing, has made me more self-aware — no more masking the pain, no more futile efforts to dull the pain.
“And it has made me even more empathetic towards others. Ultimately, my ‘purpose’ for the pain is to now use my experience to help someone else going through the same thing.”
Stapp is set to tour in the next couple of months, kicking things off on June 20 in Oshkosh, Wisconsin, and finishing up on August 31 in Lake Andes, South Dakota.
