Lights landed on people’s musical radar back in 2009 when she was awarded the Juno for New Artist of the Year. And the awards and recognition just kept coming. She was nominated for Juno Awards in 2010 and 2011 and then won again in 2015 for Pop Album of the Year for her album Little Machines. Her platinum selling single “Up We Go”; led to an extensive worldwide touring schedule. But Lights explains, touring doesn’t mean traveling: “I have seen the world but not seen it. As a musician, when you tour and you think you can see everything. I’ve been to Paris three times and never really experienced Paris.”;

But Lights is currently on tour again – although on a much scaled back version – to promote her new album “Midnight Machines”;. The album is new but the songs will be familiar – they are six acoustic versions from her third studio album that she released back in 2015. See how Lights decided which songs she wanted to record acoustically.
When not on tour, Lights is reveling staying at home and for good reason – she wants to spend more time with her 2-year-old daughter Rocket: “It’s a whole change of perspective. It makes things more enjoyable and I want to be at home for a few days and then go tour for a few weeks and be home for a few days.”; But Rocket now sometimes joins her on tour and just recently watched one of her mom’s concerts. “She watched the whole thing with her headphones on in her seat,”; says Lights. “That’s the first time she’s really sat through a whole set. And she comes up and says – I saw mommy singing.”;

And Lights would definitely encourage Rocket if she wanted to follow in her mom’s footsteps. “I’ll record her and produce and write for her. I’ll be prepared with my keyboard.”;
