The first episode of the show’s final season was enjoyed by 17.4 million viewers, according to Medium. That exceeds the previous record of 16.9 million – achieved by the season seven finale – by nearly 1 million viewers.
Sunday night’s episode accounted for the largest streaming activity ever for HBO with a 50 per cent increase in HBO NOW viewership when compared to the season seven finale. It also marked a 97 per cent viewership increase compared to the season seven premiere.
Google also saw a big uptick in Canadian search activity regarding the show. The most searched questions by Canadians included: What are the names of the dragons? Is Jon Snow Daenerys’ nephew? Is Cersei really pregnant?”
The last-ever episode of “GoT” is scheduled to air on May 19, 2019.
