Asked about their inspiration for the album, RM gave credit to their legions of fans.

“We began this process by being curious about what our fans were doing,” he said, NME reported. “The fans’ joy and happiness is the joy and happiness that we feel as well.”

According to Metro, he continued, “Over the past two and a half years, we have been talking about how loving yourself is the beginning of true love through our LOVE YOURSELF series. Thankfully, we received so much love and as we experienced things that we have never seen. But we also discovered lots of things ourselves.”
