DC Comics fans are getting their first look at “Swamp Thing”.

In a brand new teaser trailer, viewers get a glimpse at the comic-book character as he rises out the of the murky water with red, glowing eyes.

The new series will follow Abby Arcane (Crystal Reed) as she investigates an eerie swamp virus wiping out parts of Louisiana, according to the show’s official synopsis, which adds that she “soon discovers that the swamp holds mystical and terrifying secrets.” In the course of her investigation, she encounters scientist Alec Holland (Andy Bean), who is destined to transform into the supernatural superhero known as Swamp Thing (Derek Mears).

“Swamp Thing” was originally created by Len Wein and Bernie Wrightson in the ’80s for the popular DC comic book.

The trailer’s debut comes just hours after it was reported that production on the series was cut short. According to the Wilmington, North Carolina outlet Star News, crew members announced that filming will cease after the completion of episode 10; originally, the show was set for 13 episodes.

Despite reports of the shortened season, “Swamp Thing” is still set to premiere May 31 on the DC Universe streaming service, which at the moment is only available in the U.S.; no word yet on where it will be seen in Canada.
