While Thursday brought the news that Jesse Spencer and Taylor Kinney had signed new deals to keep them on “Chicago Fire” for two more seasons, viewers can expect some cast shakeups in sister shows “Chicago P.D.” and “Chicago Med”.
According to a report in Deadline, Jon Seda will be leaving “Chicago P.D.”, with the character of Det. Antonio Dawson being written out of the show.
Sources say the departure has to do with creative decisions related to the show’s “story evolution,” with writers believing the character has been “played out.” However, Seda is reportedly well-liked by producers, and it remains likely that Dawson could return on a recurring basis.
Seda turned to Twitter to confirm the news and thank his fans. “It’s been an [honour] portraying Det. Antonio Dawson,” he wrote.
As longtime viewers will recall, Seda’s character has bounced around several of the shows in uber-producer Dick Wolf’s “Chicago” franchise; before he was cast as one of the original stars of “Chicago P.D.”, Dawson was a recurring character on “Chicago Fire”.
He then left “Chicago P.D.” partway through the fourth season to join the cast of short-lived spinoff “Chicago Justice”; when that show was axed after its first season, he returned to “Chicago P.D.”, and has appeared in the various intra-show crossovers.
Meanwhile, two cast members of “Chicago Med” will also be exiting that show, with Deadline reporting that Colin Donnell (Dr. Connor Rhodes) and Norma Kuhling won’t be (Dr. Ava Bekker) returning next season.
