‘When Calls the Heart’ Star Paul Greene Opens Up About The Cast’s Support of Lori Loughlin

Paul Greene says Lori Loughlin has the support of her “When Calls the Heart” co-stars.

Greene, who plays Dr. Carson Shepherd on the Hallmark Channel series, opened up about the cast’s reaction to Loughlin’s alleged involvement in a massive college admissions scam during an appearance on Popcorn Talk Network’s “I Could Never Be” podcast on Monday.

“Everybody has really been very, very careful, because it’s a very sensitive time. And it’s very sensitive for every side of this thing,” he shared. “Everyone’s like, dotting their I’s and crossing their T’s on the corporate side and it’s like, every angle you could look at this has had to have been handled very carefully.”

Greene said that he thinks the “WCTH” family has bonded together amid the scandal. “Adversity brings family together,” he explained. “Everyone’s really pulling together now and doing the very best that they can with what they’ve been given.”

Court documents obtained by ET reveal that Loughlin and her husband, Mossimo Giannulli, allegedly paid $500,000 in bribes to have their daughters, Olivia and Isabella, deemed as recruits to the USC crew team, despite the fact that they never participated in the sport. New episodes of “When Calls the Heart” were pulled in March after the college admission scam came to light. Hallmark cut ties with Loughlin soon after. Loughlin and Giannulli have both pleaded not guilty to the charges against them.

Greene shared during the podcast that that he was grateful for all the work showrunner Alfonso Moreno had to do to rework the show after Loughlin’s firing.

“It felt like it was almost taken away… because everything was up in the air,” he said. “And at the end, [I’m] looking at it with a lot of gratitude that we get a chance to continue to tell these stories.”

“WCTH” will resume on Sunday, May 5 and Monday, May 6 at 8 p.m. ET/PT, with Loughlin cut out of the episodes. “We’ve all known Lori for a really long time, and, and when someone’s your friend and something happens to them, you don’t stop being their friend,” Greene said. “You support, no matter what happens.”
