Canadian model Winnie Harlow is tired of people who say she is “suffering” from vitiligo and now she is speaking out about it.
While on “The Johnathan Ross Show”, Harlow said it isn’t up to others to decide if the skin condition which leaves part of the skin unpigmented is debilitating.
“Some articles kept writing, they would say, ‘Winnie Harlow, 24, suffering from vitiligo’ I was like, ‘Do I look like I’m suffering? Come on now.’ Let’s not do that,” Harlow told Johnathan Ross.
“I feel like it’s not anyone else’s person position to tell me I am ‘suffering’,” the model who gained fame from “America’s Next Top Model” said.
“I don’t feel like I am suffering. I am conquering, I am living, I am living my best life in the way that I can and thriving.”
According to the Independent, vitiligo only affects around one per cent of the world’s population. The skin loses pigmentation due to a lack of melanin most commonly on the face, neck and hands.
Harlow also spoke about walking in the Victoria’s Secret Fashion show and how she hopes she can do it “every year.”
Ross asked Harlow about travelling the world and trying the local foods when he gave her the chance to try a 100-year-old egg. Harlow bravely took a bite of the black egg, delicately spat it back in a napkin and said, “not for me.” Both Ross and Olly Murs, who was another guest, were impressed with her composure.
Harlow took a sip of water when Ross told her “it is actually duck piss,” to which Harlow lost her control, nearly spitting out the water.
