Beyonce’s Dad To Premiere ‘Survivor: The Destiny’s Child Musical’ In 2020

The story of Destiny’s Child is hitting the stage.

Beyonce’s father Mathew Knowles is working on the musical Survivor: The Destiny’s Child Musical, set to premiere in Houston in 2020. The play tells the story of the girl group’s rise and borrows from the name of their chart-topping album Survivor. It will focus heavily on Knowles’ involvement behind the scenes.

Survivor: The Destiny’s Child Musical will start its roller-coaster tale at the point of humble beginnings and travel through a captivating storyline addressing the layers of evolution – good and bad – that Knowles faced during his pioneering climb into the music industry,” says a press release published on Knowles’ website.

“Ultimately, the story shares the message that building a dream takes sacrifice, even at the cost of everything and everyone you love,” it continues. “Survivor: The Destiny’s Child Musical promises complete transparency in dissecting the man who developed and navigated the careers of an iconic girl group, as well as the legacy of one of music’s biggest superstars.”

Following its planned Houston premiere in 2020, Knowles hopes to take the show to Broadway, London’s West End and, eventually, around the world.

Destiny’s Child first performed together in 1990 before disbanding in 2006. The group most recently reunited during Beyonce’s Coachella set in April 2018.
