“Last year, I took a lot of time off,” Gomez says. “I think that I needed a moment to myself because I do feel like I was growing and changing.”

The “Wolves” singer also speaks highly of therapy and how it has helped her reflect and grow. “I am a believer of therapy,” she says. “So, I think that I have had opportunities where I kinda reflect on the younger me, and I think that a lot of the times I wished that I could hug my younger self.

“I wish I could have done and experienced a lot of things, maybe, a little differently. But, I… I go to therapy… And it has helped me understand myself and my childhood a lot better.”

On the topic of authenticity, Gomez explains that people shouldn’t put so much value on social media, especially Instagram. “I love having a platform to communicate with people,” she explains, “but I just don’t think it’s healthy to spend so much time on it.

“With me, I got kind of depressed, looking at these people who look beautiful and amazing, and it would just get me down a lot. I just think taking breaks is really important… and just remember that most of it isn’t real.”

When it comes to how people view her, the former Disney star says she “would just love someone to love me for the person that I am.

“I think that a lot of people don’t understand my heart, you know? And I also don’t like that, it can be sometimes about appearance, too. I don’t really appreciate people judging me on my looks or anything like that.”
