John Boyega “honestly” believes the upcoming “Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker” movie will be the final outing for his character Finn.
The 27-year-old actor made the comments at the recent Star Wars Celebration fan event in Chicago, telling MTV News: “Honestly, the bottom of my heart, I don’t think I am [coming back]. I don’t think I am.”
He continued: “I really do feel that way. This really is that movie, I think everyone doesn’t believe it, but this is that war that just ends everything.”
Some fans jumped on Boyega’s comments, speculating whether it meant Finn dies in the upcoming film; though it could just mean “Rise of Skywalker” is the final curtain call for the new characters introduced in “The Force Awakens”.
Despite what the British actor said, “Star Wars” is not a franchise afraid of rebooting or bringing back characters — so it wouldn’t be surprising to see Boyega return at some point, especially given the popularity of Finn, as well as Daisy Ridley’s Rey and Oscar Isaac’s Poe.
In the meantime, the “Star Wars” universe is set to continue under the guidance of “The Last Jedi” director Rian Johnson and “Game of Thrones” showrunners David Benioff and D.B.D Weiss. Meanwhile, actor-director Jon Favreau is bringing the franchise to the small screen in the sci-fi web series “The Mandalorian.”
“Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker” is scheduled for release Dec. 19.
