Normani and Sam Smith are cancelling their Billboard Music Awards performance.
Smith recently cut his South African tour short due to vocal strain and he has now announced that further cancellations are coming as his medical team suggests he takes rest.
In a message on Twitter, Smith’s team wrote a message stating that he will not be performing at the “Azerbaijan Gran Prix in Baku this weekend or the Billboard Music Awards in Las Vegas next week.”
They “apologize for the disappointment” but add that the “primary focus” is on Smith’s “recovery and health.”
Smith was meant to perform at the award show together with Normani, but due to his cancelation, Normani will now no longer be performing either.
She made the sad announcement Thursday on Twitter, writing that she is praying Smith is “able to take the time that he needs.”
While visiting Cape Town for his many scheduled concerts, Smith suffered vocal strain and had to cut short midway through the first show.
“Sam Smith’s CPT concert tonight has been cancelled,” BIG Concerts’ Twitter account said on April 16. “Unfortunately Sam Smith took strain to his voice & had to stop his performance. Ticket holders will be contacted directly. We will keep you posted with more info for the other CPT performances as it becomes available.”
Fans were issued a full refund.
