Kathy Griffin is officially hosting this year’s Shorty Awards, which honours the best social media influencers from YouTube, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Snapchat, TikTok and more.
The comedian joins the likes of past Shorty hosts Tony Hale, Keke Palmer, Rachel Dratch and Mamrie Hart.
Griffin is also a finalist in the “Best Celebrity” category, alongside 2020 Democratic Presidential candidate Joe Biden, actors Jonah Hill, Russell Brand and Reese Witherspoon. Other 2019 nominees include Awkwafina, Michelle Obama and Jason Momoa.
Shorty Awards organizers told The Hollywood Reporter that she was the perfect choice for this year’s host: “Over the past year, Kathy has organically grown her online YouTube following and has made a natural shift to include a strong digital presence within her brand.” With over 120,000 subscribers, Griffin often collaborates with YouTube superstar Shane Dawson, who will also be attending the red carpet show.
Griffin took to Twitter to show her excitement, also alluding to being “blacklisted” in Hollywood almost two years ago for posting an image of her holding what looked like U.S. President Trump’s severed head.
The 11th Annual Shorty Awards will be held on Sunday, May 5 at 6 p.m. ET in New York City and streamed online at Twitter, YouTube and at ShortyAwards.com.
