The artist formerly known as Grimes is over-performing in the flesh.

Grimes, who recently expressed a desire to be addressed as c, tells Flaunt she would be interested in conducting a hologram tour of her own. “I wanna retire from touring,” she reveals in their new cover story. “I wanna do a hologram tour.”

“I feel like at times there is an extreme rage that I haven’t been able to lay down… A rawness that I have withheld from the public, because people always told me to make it more accessible. I’ve given that up for this, and it’s been freeing.” @Grimes on liberating herself. From #TheCauseandEffectIssue #165. “Why do we keep doing them for dead artists instead of living ones who have stage fright?” c asks.

A key component of why wants to perform through a hologram is because of her crippling stage fright. She has not played a full concert in more than one year and last appeared onstage for a short performance on “The Tonight Show” in December.

“It’s nightmarish. Apocalyptic. Terrifying, horrible. I can’t hear clapping or cheers — I just hear an echo chamber of death. I black out,” she says. “Dissociation — I can’t tell what’s happening. After a show I’m always thinking, What happened?”

“In ancient Greek culture you have these gods that represent abstract, terrifying concepts. Like a God of Death. So I kind of wanted to make Miss Anthropocene this idea of, like, the God of Climate Change. So for fun she would want the world to end you know, kind of bring about the end of humanity. And she’s fun. She’s fucking fun and evil!” @Grimes on the creation of #MissAnthropocene taken from #TheCauseandEffectIssue #165 Read her full interview online at Flaunt.com and purchase the magazine (link in bio)⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ @CHLOE by @nramsaylevi top.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Photographed by: @zoeygrossman⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Styled by: @muihai and @zoecostello Costello ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Hair: @1.800.chanel⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Makeup: @anthonyhnguyenmakeup ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Manicure: @stephstonenails⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Prop Stylist: @artandset⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Photo Assistant: Phil Sanchez ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Digital Tech: Dustin Edwards ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Location: @milk⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Written by: @idsay ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ #flauntmagazine #flaunt #Grimes #Chloe #chloegirls #artangel

“I know people like the authenticity of live performance, and I do too. But I’m not a good performer,” c admits. “I’m a director who accidentally fell into this position, and now it’s too late to change. So I need to Gorillaz it — I need to find a way to not have to do the Beyonce thing as much.”

Holograms of Tupac Shakur and Michael Jackson have famously hit the stage. There are current plans for hologram concerts involving Ronnie James Dio, Frank Zappa, Buddy Holly and Roy Orbison.
