Taylor Swift spoke about how she constantly drops clues in her music as she phoned into “On Air With Ryan Seacrest” Tuesday.
Swift chatted to the host after it was announced that she’d be performing at iHeartRadio’s 2019 Wango Tango.
Talking about her new single “ME!”, Swift said: “It just feels really great to have such amazing feedback from the fans and have them combing through the video trying to figure out details — they’re the best.”
She added, “There’s so many little clues in the video.”
Swift’s music video for her latest release, featuring Brendon Urie, included rainbows, cats, crazy animations, and, of course, a whole lot of Easter eggs and hidden messages.
The musician went on: “There’s kind of different levels to the crypticness. Like, some of the symbolic references they’ll understand in a couple months and some they’ll get when they really go through the album like some of the lyric references — but, it’s really fun to put that stuff together because I’ve been doing stuff like this for like 15 years.”
Swift continued, “It takes a lot of planning and it’s basically a flex on planning. This is how far ahead of things I planned this album… it’s more of an experience. I think it’s fun for us to create like an event… make it more fun for them to talk about and think about it and they’re awesome. I’m definitely going to tell them everything about the album in due time.”
