Jaden Smith will be putting his rap skills to a slightly different use when he portrays a young Kanye West in an upcoming anthology series for Showtime.

As Variety reports, the 20-year-old son of Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith has been cast in “Omniverse”, described as “a limited half-hour anthology series examining the many doors of perception,” and will be executive produced by none other than Yeezy himself.

A script has been ordered for the first season of the series, which will reportedly “explore the Ego through an alternate reality Kanye West, whose younger self will be played by Smith.”

This marks West’s first-ever television project, and he’ll produce alongside Smith, Scooter Braun (manager of such recording artists as Justin Bieber and Ariana Grande), writer Lee Sung Jin, James Shin, Scott Manson and Miguel Melendez.

As The Hollywood Reporter points out, “no other details, aside from the cryptic logline, were immediately available” about the show.

In addition to his musical career, Smith has also been carving out a solid resume as an actor, having recently appeared in two films — “Life in a Year” and “Skate Kitchen” — along with starring roles in two Netflix projects, the animated series “Neo Yokio,” and Baz Luhrmann’s “The Get Down”.
