Stana Katic, Nathan Fillion Weigh In On Cancellation Of ‘Castle’

The fate of “Castle”; has been hanging by a thread over the past few weeks, and now it’s official: “Castle”; has been cancelled after eight seasons.

The writing appeared to be on the wall when it was announced that if ABC were to go ahead with a ninth season, it would be without star Stana Katic, who’s played Det. Kate Beckett since the series began.

Katic’s exit came amidst tabloid reports of tension on the set between her and Nathan Fillion, who plays crime-solving novelist Richard Castle, with “Us Weekly”; reporting that the actors’ relationship had deteriorated to the point that the network ordered the pair to undergo couples counselling (Fillion didn’t respond to the story, while Katic’s rep said she had “absolutely no issues”; with her co-star).

Given the uncertainty over the series’ future, “The Hollywood Reporter”; notes that two different endings were filmed for this Monday’s season finale, one that would have served as a springboard to season nine and another that wraps up the series, which is clearly the ending viewers will see next week.
