Pearl Jam hit the stage of Toronto’s Air Canada Centre on Thursday night, with a special guest in attendance: Geddy Lee of Rush.
As a result, the band sent Lee a special shout-out with guitarist Mike McCready ripping out the opening notes of the band’s classic “Fly By Night”;, which proves to be a big hit with the Toronto audience.
“We’ve been playing for 25 years, and if we wanted to learn how to play a Rush song, we’d probably have to play for 25 years,”; quipped front man Eddie Vedder. “They have XYZ, we’re about LMNOP,”; he added, referring to Rush’s fan-favourite instrumental “YYZ.”;
Vedder then joked about the band being jealous of Toronto’s CN Tower in comparison to the not-as-big Space Needle in their home town of Seattle, for obvious symbolic reasons. Watch:
