Celebrating 15 years as a L’Oreal spokeswoman and many more during her career, there is no one who embodies the Cannes Film Festival better than Aishwarya Rai Bachchan.

From winning Miss World in 1994, to her internationally recognized Bollywood acting career to establishing herself as one of the most popular and high-profile celebrities in India, Rai has a lot to celebrate.

Sitting down with the superstar at the festival, Natasha Gargiulo got the details on how Rai stays grounded in her personal and professional life, despite constant media scrutiny.

“I’ve been a bit of a rebel to begin with,”; the actress shares about not feeling like she needs to “fight the fight”; when it comes to ageing in her career.

“I came in from modelling and Miss Worlds, so predictably I could have just jumped onto the glamourous bandwagon,”; Rai says. “My first choice was a piece of cinema that was anything but glamorous and I’ve been doing that throughout my career and I find that extremely liberating,”; she adds.

“So personally, I don’t find myself “fighting the fight’ in terms of finding my voice, because I’ve been a mixed bag from the beginning.”;  Watch below to find out what advice Rai would give up and comers to the Hollywood industry.

“I don’t think you can walk through life with rose-tinted glasses and with a list of expectations,”; Rai says.

“I’m not really an advice book,”; she tells Natasha, adding that in terms of her marriage to Bollywood producer Abhishek Bachchan the couple tries to “not overthink it”; and live their everyday in reality.

“I think it’s all about keeping it real and being the best of friends,”; Rai shares.  “I mean, so many of us talk about where your marriage is rooted,”; she says, adding, “it begins with saying you’re friends first, so then you need to keep that friendship alive and you need to share, and you need to communicate.”;
