“Trainspotting 2″ has hit the ground running, according to a new teaser clip giving the first sneak peek at the long-awaited sequel, nearly 20 years to day since the film made its debut at Cannes.
Adapted from the novel by Irvine Welsh, Danny Boyle’s look at the Edinburgh drug scene launched Ewan McGregor onto the A-list. Now, he’s back for the sequel alongside the original cast including Ewen Bremner, Robert Carlyle and Jonny Lee Miller. The original cast was long-rumoured to reunite for the project, but it was officially confirmed today with the release of a teaser trailer.
Earlier this year, McGregor teased that the start date on the sequel was imminent. Speaking with Collider about the follow-up film, the star called the new script “really, really, really good.”; He added, “I think we’re all sort of somewhat protective of what “Trainspotting’ means to people, and what it means to us. None of us want to make a poor sequel to it. So had we not been presented with the most extraordinary script, which we were, I think we wouldn’t be making the sequel. But because we were, we are.”;
A video celebrating the first day of filming was released this morning, along with the announcement of the film’s official title, “T2″. The teaser clip is a nod to the original film’s trailer and opening scene, once again set to Iggy Pop’s “Lust For Life”;. “T2″ is based on the novel “Porno”;, Welsh’s 2006 sequel to “Trainspotting”;.
“T2″ is slated to hit theatres in January 2017.
