The rebooted “Beverly Hills, 90210” isn’t even in production yet, but that’s not stopping Fox from releasing a new promo with some familiar faces.
Jason Priestley, Brian Austin Green, Jennie Garth, Tori Spelling, Shannen Doherty, Gabrielle Carteris and Ian Ziering are reuniting in “BH90210” to play “heightened” versions of themselves in the new series, which focuses on the cast as they attempt to revive and reboot their classic teen drama.
The newly-released promo videos sees the original series stars gather around for a table read of the first script. But, according to Entertainment Weekly, the cast is just playing around with prop scripts since the show doesn’t begin production until late May.
Labelled as an “event series”, the six-episodes of “BH90210” are billed as a “brand-new serialized drama – with a healthy dose of irreverence – that is inspired by their real lives and relationships with each other,” according to Fox.
“Having gone their separate ways since the original series ended 19 years ago, Shannen, Jason, Jennie, Ian, Gabrielle, Brian and Tori reunite when one of them suggests it’s time to get a ‘Beverly Hills, 90210’ reboot up and running. But getting it going may make for an even more delicious soap than the reboot itself,” the network announced in a statement. “What will happen when first loves, old romances, friends and frenemies come back together, as this iconic cast – whom the whole world watched grow up together – attempts to continue from where they left off?”
Notably absent from the video is Luke Perry, who died from complications following a stroke on March 4. Perry had not signed on the series before his death.
With the summer premiere of “BH90210” around the corner, Global is sharing an all-new look at the upcoming reboot.
In the short clip, the Beverly Hills gang are hearing things in their everyday household items. Could it be their iconic theme song?
“BH90210” will return Wednesday, August 7 at 9 p.m. ET/PT on Global.
