An Italian paramedic was in court on Monday after allegedly stealing a Rolex watch belonging to “The Sopranos”; star James Gandolfini in 2013.
Claudio Belivacqua was one of the paramedics on call when Gandolfini suffered a massive heart attack in his hotel room during a vacation in Rome. Officials allege that Belivacqua nicked the $3000 watch as the actor lay dying. It is unclear whether Gandolfini was wearing the watch at the time or if it was removed from his hotel room.
The accused was not present in court for the first hearing of the case. The judge postponed the start date of the trial to November.
Gandolfini had been travelling in Italy with his family at the time of his death in June 2013. After a day of sightseeing in the heat, his 13-year-old son, Michael, found the actor unconscious on the floor of his hotel room. Paramedics arrived shortly thereafter, before transferring Gandolfini to the hospital where he was pronounced dead 20 minutes later.
