Ahead of hosting this weekend’s “Saturday Night Live”, Emma Thompson dropped by “The Tonight Show” on Friday night to aid Jimmy Fallon in an unusual task: washing a sheepdog.
The stunt, however, was far from random. During Thompson’s “Tonight Show” appearance, she discussed her role in the upcoming film “Late Night”, in which she co-stars with Mindy Kaling (who also wrote the screenplay) as the host of a late-night TV talk show who is about to lose her job.
In a clip from the flick, Thompson’s character is informed by her boss (Amy Ryan) that her show is irrelevant and she’s about to be fired.
“The show is irrelevant, the ratings reflect that,” says Ryan’s character. “Do you want to know who Jimmy Fallon had on Tuesday when you had Doris Kearns Goodwin? Robert Downey Jr. They washed a sheepdog together. It was f**king glorious.”
After the clip finished, Fallon quipped, “You know, there’s only one thing left to do.”
“Yeah, you can see it coming,” Thompson acknowledged as she and Fallon proceeded to scrub down a sheepdog.
“D’you know what?” said Thompson as she rubbed the shaggy canine with a water-soaked sponge. “This is f**king glorious!”
