During one of the final episodes of “Game Of Thrones”, sharp-eyed viewers noticed a Starbucks coffee cup on a table in front of Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clarke) during one scene.
Appearing on “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon”, “GoT” star Sophie Turner (who plays Sansa Stark) originally discussed the gaffe — and shared her suspicions of who’s to blame.
“Let’s clear this up!” the 23-year-old actress told Fallon when he suggested she may have been responsible.
“We all have the same cups for all of our water and tea and everything,” she explained. “So I’m going to just go with, I mean, look who it’s placed in front of… Emilia Clarke, she’s the culprit!”
Further discussing the incident, Fallon asked Turner if she had spoken about “Coffeegate” with any other members of the “Game Of Thrones” cast.
“There was just one text and it was from Nikolaj [Coster-Waldau] who plays Jaime Lannister, and he just wrote, ‘Great episode. Was that a coffee cup?’”
Although after a few weeks, Turner changed her tune. “The coffee cup was where Kit [Harington]‘s chair was,” Turner said while on “Conan”. “First I blamed it on Emilia [Clarke], but I don’t think Emilia would do that.”
“Kit is lazy and I think he would have done that,” she added. “It was in front of Kit’s chair and then obviously he moved and this picture was taken and it looked like it was in my seat, but I wasn’t there either. It was Kit. It was a hundred percent Kit.”
Slightly annoyed and slightly teasing, Turner commented, “I hear this every day of my life, this coffee cup thing, so it’s good to know that the coffee cup got more press than the final season altogether.”
