Nikolaj Coster-Waldau and Pilou Asbaek may not be on the friendliest terms in “Game Of Thrones”, but the actors are decades-long friends in real life.

Asbaek plays Euron Greyjoy and Coster-Waldau stars as Jaime Lannister on the mammoth HBO series. In the past, however, Asbaek served as a male nanny for Waldau’s children.

“We’re actually good friends because we both come from Denmark and — he will hate me saying this, but it’s true — I was the manny for his kids before I became an actor in 2003,” Pilou told Entertainment Weekly. “I was like 19, 20 years old. I didn’t know what I wanted to do with my life.”

“I thought I wanted to be a teacher because I love kids,” he continued. “I was like a substitute teacher at a kindergarten and his kids were there and I was a manny for them.”

Pilou, 37, has a lot of respect for Coster-Waldau both on-and-off camera. “We’ve done some work together in Denmark. He’s been working very, very hard to get where he is now,” he told The Hollywood Reporter in a separate interview. “All the success he’s having now is so deserved.”

The finale episode of “GoT” ever airs Sunday, May 19.
