Leonardo DiCaprio’s Rep Responds To Charges He Hired Private Jet To Accept Environmental Award

Leonardo DiCaprio is in the hot seat after the Oscar-winning environmental activist was accused of flying on a private jet in order to attend a fundraiser and accept an award for environmentalism.

When news emerged that he “Revenant”; star jetted from Cannes (where he attended the amFAR gala), to NYC to attend the Riverkeeper Fishermen’s Ball on Wednesday, the Twitterverse was quick to point out the hypocrisy of flying on a private jet while preaching about encroaching climate change.

However, a rep for DiCaprio tells Us Weekly that the jet had already been booked — Leo merely hitched a ride.

“He was asked to speak at both Riverkeeper and amfAR events, but the only way to attend the two fundraisers was to hitch a ride with flights that were already planned,”; says the rep. “Leo helped both events raise millions, donated his own funds, auctioned off his house and had speaking roles in both programs.”;
