Mistakes are often made during live television broadcasts, and during Wednesday night’s “Live in Front of a Studio Audience” star Jamie Foxx made a doozy.
In this special TV event produced by Jimmy Kimmel, an all-star cast was assembled to perform live episodes of Norman Lear’s iconic sitcoms “All in the Family” and “The Jeffersons”, with Foxx playing George Jefferson opposite Woody Harrelson’s Archie Bunker.
In a scene in the “All in the Family” episode, Foxx’s George Jefferson is in the Bunkers’ living room, with Foxx in the midst of delivering a punchline when he stumbled over his words and stopped cold.
“It’s live. It’s live,” Foxx joked, breaking character for a moment. “People at home thinking their TV is messed up.”
Foxx’s flub cracked up the rest of the cast, with Marisa Tomei (playing Edith Bunker) and Ellie Kemper (Gloria Stivic) giggling and smiling at his screw-up, while Ike Barinholtz (Mike “Meathead” Stivic) covering his mouth with his hand to hide his laughter. Meanwhile, Harrelson turned his head away from the camera in an attempt to hide his giggle fit.
One member of the cast who decidedly did not mess up was Jennifer Hudson, with the “Dreamgirls” Oscar-winner absolutely nailing her live in-studio rendition of the “Jeffersons” theme. Watch:
