Rita Ora left her luggage in the capable hands of a courier to transport her jewellery to Cannes, or so she thought.
The singer found out that the approximately $4 million worth of gems she hired them to transport got left on a plane.
According to AFP, a woman got on a plane from London Luton airport to Nice. When disbarking she left her coat and luggage on board which contained the jewellery.
The woman apparently realized her mistake, but by then it was too late, and the plane was on its return trip to the United Kingdom with her belongings.
“Someone with their head in the clouds nearly lost several million,” a police source joked to AFP.
Upon arriving in Luton, the jewels were recovered and sent back on another flight from Heathrow, finally making it, unfortunately, not in time.
Ora attended Magnum’s Cannes event on May 16 sans sparklers and then left Nice on the 18th to continue the European leg of her world tour.
While these pieces of jewellery were recovered, other guests in Cannes have not been as lucky.
In 2015, a $26.3 million jewellery raid took place days before the festival started.
The Telegraph reports that a man in an “old-man” mask broke into the Cartier boutique while two other men raided the store while a fourth stood guard.
Two years before that, a single thief captured $210 million in jewellery from the Carlton hotel. They have never been caught.
