Following the devastating wildfires in Fort McMurray, Alberta earlier this month, some of Canada’s biggest musical acts are coming together to help rebuild the community.
Juno Award-winners Nickelback, Blue Rodeo, and Dean Brody are some of the names attached to perform at the just-announced “Fire Aid For Fort McMurray” concert at the Commonwealth Stadium in Edmonton on Wednesday, June 29. Other performers set to hit the stage include Randy Bachman, Dallas Smith, Brett Kissel and Dear Rouge.
“The wildfires have affected the entire country, ” Nickelback’s Ryan Peake tells ET Canada in a statement. “The devastation, images and stories of the lives shattered by this resonate with everyone but, perhaps none more so than Albertans.”
“Alberta is home for us and we’ve never shied from that. When tragedy strikes at home, you help. It’s the least we could do and we are humbled to be a part of this event with so many talented artists. So many people have answered the call for help already. This is the least we can do and we hope that our efforts can assist those that need it most.”
Tickets went on sale Monday, May 30, with 100 per cent of all funds raised to be donated to the Fort McMurray United Way.
“The show goes rain or shine,”; the poster reads, adding, “we’re praying for rain.”
