Sylvester Stallone Shares His ‘Great Idea’ For Another ‘Rocky’ Movie, Focusing On America’s Immigration Policies

It looks like Rocky Balboa could be stepping into the ring one more time.

During a Q&A at the Cannes Film Festival to promote his upcoming “Rambo” sequel, Sylvester Stallone revealed that while he has no plans to appear in another “Creed” film, he does have a timely and topical idea for another “Rocky” film.

“I have a great idea for Rocky,” Stallone said, as reported by The Guardian. “He finds this fella who’s in the country illegally and it becomes a whole thing. It would be really phenomenal, really different.”

Without offering any details, Stallone explained how his idea could bring something fresh to the franchise that began with 1976’s “Rocky”.

“It’s like a magician,” he said. “Once you’ve seen how he does the tricks you’re not impressed any more. It’s the same thing with Rocky. You’ve seen everything, so you’re like, ‘How can it be different?’ That would be different. When you take him and throw him out of the country and he’s in another world. It could work. But I ain’t gonna do it.”

Despite Stallone’s political leanings as a longtime Republican, he insisted that the underdog boxer was never meant to be seen through a political lens. “I never took it personally, people saying Rocky was really right-wing. Rocky is a simple man who grew up in that kind of mentality. That’s just the way it was back then. Everyone was super patriotic growing up. And that’s just the way he is. He’s not a political animal. So when he wraps the flag around him, he thinks he’s doing a good thing,” he said.

“Whenever boxers lift up the flag of their nation, it’s just automatic,” he continued. “They’re not saying, ‘We’re better than you.’ It’s what they were trained to do. So I never took it as a confrontational thing.”

According to Stallone, the same also holds true for his other iconic cinematic creation, John Rambo. “Once President Reagan went ‘I saw Rambo and he’s a Republican.’ I went, ‘So I guess he’s a Republican then,’” said Stallone, reportedly “putting his head in his hands” as he spoke.

Speaking of Rambo, Stallone also offered a scoop about the upcoming “Rambo: Last Blood”, sharing some broad strokes about what fans can expect to see.

“He goes out there and bad things happen,” Stallone teased. “There’s going to be some serious vengeance in this movie. A lot of people are going to get killed.”
