Eric Church has landed behind bars — or at least that’s the case in the country singer’s new music video for “Some Of It”, the latest single off his 2018 album Desperate Man.
In the video, the 42-year-old Nashville star is seen being led into a prison as a newspaper headline declares, “SOME OF IT SOLVED: MYSTERIES REMAIN,” along with a photo of Church.
Having landed in the slammer for apparently being part of some type of mystery heist, Church’s convict is contrasted with footage of his teenage daughter, who hatches a plan to take apart his electric guitar and smuggle the various pieces to him until he’s able to reconstruct it.
After some shots of Church playing the guitar inside his cell, he’s then seen donning his signature aviator sunglasses and being released.
His freedom, however, may come with a price; the very end of the video features a mysterious phone call by an unseen person who declares, “He’s out.”
Speaking with Rolling Stone last year about his latest album, Church said that his new music reflects his belief that country music shouldn’t remain stuck in the past.
“The great thing about country is where it came from,” he told RS. “It can change and evolve, and it should. It’s a big umbrella. But we can’t let it get so wide that we don’t know where the middle is. Country is not about hay bales or a fiddle. It’s about emotion and the organic way we make it. We don’t use machines. We use instruments.”
