Jodie Comer is the breakout star of Phoebe Waller-Bridge’s hit series “Killing Eve”, but she very nearly wasn’t in the show at all.
The 26-year-old British actress is on the cover of the new GQ Hype, and shares the story of how she almost turned down the now iconic role of Villanelle.
Comer says when she was pitched the idea of playing a “female assassin,” she immediately worried about what the role would involve.
“I was like, ‘Oh, f**k no,'” she recalls. “Because I always think of someone in a leather catsuit and 6-inch heels scaling walls. Also, ‘How naked is she going to be?”
She adds, “I should have known better, knowing Phoebe was the writer.”
Comer also praised Waller-Bridge’s talent, saying, “I love her so much. I’ve said to her she has to cast me on every single thing she makes from now on. Otherwise I’ll send Villanelle!”
Asked about her dating life, Comer admits that her villain character may be driving most men away.
“I don’t know if it’s particularly because I’ve played a psychopath,” she says. “I don’t get approached at all. Which is fine – I’m never in one place long enough.”
That said, Comer has found “strange men” waiting for her at the airport at 2 a.m. looking for autographs.
