Following the success of “Bohemian Rhapsody” and rave reviews for the upcoming “Rocketman”, director Dexter Fletcher is eyeing another music icon for an upcoming biopic: Madonna.
While speaking with Gay Star News, Fletcher said a movie based on the life story of the “Like A Virgin” legend would make for a killer project.
“I’d do Madonna! That sounds like a real rollercoaster ride,” he said. “It would be extraordinary.”
While Elton John and the surviving members of Queen were onboard those movies, Fletcher isn’t sure that would be the case with a Madonna biopic.
“I don’t know how happy she’d be about that [idea],” he admits. “But what an extraordinary life that would be. If I was to tackle any other icon like that, it would be her. She’s extraordinary.”
Whether Madonna would be onboard remains a big question; back in 2017, when talk of a biopic with Universal emerged, the icon shut it down.
She wrote to Instagram: “Nobody knows what I know and what I have seen. Only I can tell my story. Anyone else who tries is a charlatan and a fool. Looking for instant gratification without doing the work. This is a disease in our society.”
Meanwhile, Fletcher’s Elton John biopic, “Rocketman”, hits big screens May 31.
