Lil Nas X sure knows how to connect with young fans.
The country-trap crossover king proved that when he made a surprise visit to an Ohio elementary school after seeing a video of the students of Lander Elementary School in Mayfield Heights, Ohio, as they rocked out to his chart-topping hit “Old Town Road” during the school’s talent show.
The school’s principal, Felecia Evans not only captured the excitement on video, she shared it on social media, tagging the rapper in her tweet.
“This has been unbelievable to see the response,” Evans told a local news outlet. “We are so grateful for everyone to see how much joy and energy our students have, we have a great school and awesome students.”
Evans also said that, at that point, she hadn’t “been able to confirm details of any visit, he has a very busy schedule and trying to coordinate something before school ends has been difficult,” adding that she was “hopeful to figure something out for the near future.”
The reason she wasn’t able to confirm the visit was because Lil Nas X wanted to keep it a surprise, and a video posted on social media by Complex goes behind the scenes as he managed to show up for a stealth appearance.
“I’m finna do the biggest show of my life, and it’s going to be great,” Lil Nas X says in the video as he prepares to enter the school’s gymnasium.
Walking into the gymnasium, Lil Nas X was met with thunderous applause. “I need y’all to sing,” he tells the students.
