Charlize Theron admits she almost turned down her Oscar-winning role as Aileen Wuornos in the 2003 film “Monster”.
The 43-year-old speaks to Marie Claire Australia about the flick, insisting: “I didn’t think I could do it at first.”
She goes on to say how the film’s director, Patty Jenkins, eventually convinced her to take on the role.
Theron shares, according to the Daily Mail: “I never had somebody believe in me like that before,” adding Jenkins said at the time: “You have to, you’re the only person who can.”
The star, who had only acted in “The Devil’s Advocate”, “The Astronaut’s Wife” and “Sweet November” at that stage in her career, continues to tell the mag: “I was always a person who would go into an audition after audition and lay myself on broken glass and not get the part.”
Theron adds of Jenkins: “It’s super emotional because I don’t think a lot of women get an opportunity like that.”
“I feel like when you work with people who believe in you… If you have that kind of faith in me. I will do anything for you.”
