Emma Thompson is quite the Prince William fan.
The 60-year-old actress, who was made a dame by the Duke of Cambridge back in November, admitted she wrote the prince a letter after the ceremony to thank him.
The actress said on “Today”: “Prince William was giving the awards and he was just so – I wrote him a fan letter afterwards because he was just so kind and good to everyone.”
“And they have to do these a lot and he engaged so sweetly and generously with every single person. I was incredibly impressed.”
When asked how the whole thing came about, Thompson said: “Well I was shooting ‘Late Night’ when I got the letter – it’s very ancient, these are very, very old honours. Damehoods go back hundreds and hundreds of years to the 12th century or something.”
“You think of it as a modern thing, but in fact its not and you have to decide whether you want to take it or not,” she added, before saying it took her about two seconds to make her decision.
Despite her letter to William, Thompson insisted she doesn’t really have any interest in their personal lives.
She told Savannah Guthrie: “I feel like their lives are their lives and I admire them enormously, but I don’t follow them, no.”
