Fans have some strong opinions about Pumbaa’s character poster from “The Lion King”.
Disney released photo-realistic character posters of lions Simba, Nala and Pumbaa the warthog, causing a stir online. While some dismissed the posters for the Donald Glover-voiced Simba and Beyonce’s Nala for looking like stock photos of lions, Pumbaa – who is voiced by Seth Rogen in the movie – drew immediate reactions.
Decried as “terrifying”, the warthog earned comparisons to the horror movie “The Witch”… especially when people imagined Rogen’s signature laugh coming out of Pumbaa’s mouth.
Still, others were confused by what people expected a photo-realistic warthog to look like.
Fans have been outspoken about the new look of the beloved animated characters. The first look at the lion cast also drew strong reaction.
The Disney movie, which features Chiwetel Ejiofor as the voice of Scar, Billy Eichner as Timon, John Oliver as Zazu and James Earl Jones reprising his role as Mufasa, will arrive in theatres on July 19.
