Two years after exiting YouTube, Beauty influencer Michelle Phan is back.
The internet star told her fans that she had to take time away as she was unhappy and exhausted from running her channel, but rested and ready to take on the world once again- Phan is back.
On Saturday, Phan launched a channel that loops hand-picked songs from artists she supports called “24/7 Magic Hour Radio”.
The “vibe-y chill” mood music promotes artists who use the online market place, Thematic. Phan is one of the founders and investors of Thematic.
Speaking to Variety, she said, “It’s a passion project of mine,” she said. “That’s how it started with my first beauty video in 2007. It was something I was interested in sharing.”
“I’ve seen that when YouTubers become big, the labels come in and make copyright claims,” Phan said. On the other side, she added, “music artists, if they’re not educated, miss out on money they could make from royalties.”
Phan even joined in the conversation with her fans on her new channel answering their questions such as “what did you think of the ‘GoT’ ending?”
“I deleted it from my memory,” she commented. “But it is hard to write a good story.”
Phan rose to fame when she started posting makeup tutorials on YouTube 12 years ago. The entrepreneur sold her stake in Ipsy, a beauty-sample-box subscription company for $500 million in 2017. She currently owns EM Cosmetics.
