The highly anticipated fifth season of the anthology series “Black Mirror” has arrived on Netflix. Now, the show’s creator-writer Charlie Brooker is here to guide viewers through the latest episodes of the streaming series.

Now in its fifth season (its third on Netflix), “Black Mirror” once again showcases the tech-driven paranoia of the modern world in three suspenseful stand-alone episodes. While the original U.K. run of the series featured several future stars, including Daniel Kaluuya, Domhnall Gleeson, and Hayley Atwell, season 5 stars include Anthony Mackie, Andrew Scott, and Miley Cyrus.

“More humour is present in all of them this time, and yet, it’s threaded through with a lot of darkness,” Brooker says as he breaks down the new season in a short, spoiler-free video guide.

While most of the show’s episodes are set in a more futuristic and modern world, the season-5 episode “Smithereens” featuring Scott and Topher Grace is stripped of its sci-fi elements and set in the present day, according to Brooker.

“We wanted to do a story that had no sci-fi element whatsoever,” he explains.

As for the episode “Rachel, Jack and Ashley Too” featuring Cyrus, Brooker describes it as “rompy.”

“There’s a lot going in here,” he says of the episode that also features musical numbers by Cyrus.

All five seasons of “Black Mirror” are now streaming on Netflix.
