“Avengers: Endgame” offered a lot of closure for Marvel fans but there was one plot thread that never got its due.
In earlier “Avengers” films, Bruce Banner and Natasha Romanoff, a.k.a. Hulk and Black Widow, were shown having a blossoming romance, but in “Infinity War” and “Endgame” that plotline was pretty much dropped.
But as co-screenwriter Stephen McFeely explained on the Empire movie podcast, originally, there were plans to bring the romantic story to fruition.
“In ‘Infinity War’ we have scenes — we wrote them, we shot them — of them sort of hashing that out,” he explained, according to IndieWire. “‘You’ve been gone, I’ve moved on,’ that kind of stuff. It became very clear that if a scene was not on the ‘A plot’, it could not survive ‘Infinity War’. That thing has to be on rails just to get to the finish line. You couldn’t wrap up loose threads just because you wanted to.”
Black Widow is getting a solo Marvel movie starring Scarlett Johansson, but rumours suggest the film will be a prequel, meaning fans will still be left waiting for some closure with the Hulk.
