The first look at a new video game based on Marvel’s “Avengers” movies would typically be cause for fans to celebrate, but a new trailer for the upcoming resulted in more confusion than celebration.
That’s because the makers of the game, likely daunted by how much it would cost to licence the likenesses of the films’ recognizable stars, instead opted to create video-game Avengers who look nothing at all like their big-screen counterparts.
Bill Rosemann, vice president and creative director at Marvel Games, spoke at a press conference to announce the new game during the E3 Expo in Los Angeles, explaining the disparity by stating that the superheroes in the video game are “interpretations” of the movie versions, and are “unique to the game.”
After watching the non-Avengers in a new clip for the game — which is set for a 2020 release — fans took to Twitter to share their thoughts, and they were decidedly unimpressed.
