The “Star Wars” franchise could have had Emma Thompson but “they didn’t want me,” the actress reveals in a new interview.
Thompson and “Late Night” co-star Mindy Kaling participated in Wired‘s autocomplete interview where the stars answer the top Google searches about themselves.
“Is Emma Thompson in ‘Star Wars’?” the actress reads before giving an emphatic, “No! No!”
“My agent actually said to the last people who were making the last ‘Star Wars’…’She’d be really interested in being in the next ‘Star Wars,'” she explains, adding, “I actually really like ‘Star Wars.'”
“And they said ‘no.’ I’m not in ‘Star Wars’ because they don’t want me to be in ‘Star Wars,'” she says.
Shocked that Thompson was turned down, Kaling envisions the perfect “Star Wars” role for the actress.
“I have to say that if Emma Thompson is in ‘Star Wars’…You know the young Jedi that has lost their will to live and end up in the forest somewhere and someone appears to them to teach them? You would be great at that,” she tells Thompson.
“Yes. Or I could be Jabba the Hutt’s handmaiden,” Thompson says as Kaling laughs. “I could squeeze those frogs for him.”
