Kate Mara is opening up about experiencing a miscarriage.
The “House Of Cards” alum chatted about the heartbreaking time with Dr. Berlin’s “Informed Pregnancy” podcast, revealing she lost her first pregnancy at three months.
“It was the first time I’ve ever been pregnant, and I’ve never had that excitement and shock of being an almost mom,” Mara, 36, explained.
But eight weeks in, her doctor told her that they had trouble seeing the embryo, “I think the next day we went back in and she said I clearly had a blighted ovum… ‘Basically, you’ve miscarried, but it just hasn’t left your body yet.’” The loss, Mara explained, “dragged out forever.”
But some good news followed the devastation, when Mara debuted a baby bump on the 2019 Oscars red carpet and gave birth to her daughter with husband Jamie Bell in May.
“It was weird,” she said. “I was so excited, but also sad that we weren’t as excited as we were the first time, because that was clear that it was a very different dynamic.”
Their new arrival is the second child for Bell. The “Rocketman” actor, who plays Bernie Taupin in the biopic, shares son Jack, 5, with his ex Evan Rachel Wood.
