Eddie Vedder and Valeska Custers have reunited 27 years after their first meeting.
During his performance in Amsterdam Sunday night, the Pearl Jam frontman told the crowd about Custers, revealing they met in 1992 after a concert and talked until 3 a.m. Later, Custers drove Vedder back to his hotel on her brother’s bicycle.
Vedder paused Sunday’s gig to ask if Custers happened to be in the crowd, “I remember her hair kept flinging against my face,” Vedder recounted. “I am almost certain that I would still recognize her face.”
Custers was not at his Amsterdam show but heard about Vedder’s comments while talking to a Dutch newspaper. She shared her own recollection of the night in 1992.
In her interview with Het Partool, Custers revealed she didn’t actually go to the concert to see Pearl Jam at the time, but their opening band, City Pug Unit. While backstage, she ran into Vedder. “’How do you like my new tattoo?’ he asked. I told him I liked it. He was extremely shy, but I really felt a connection with him.” The pair later met up at the cafe.
Custers, now 49, says she always thought of reaching out to Vedder: “I have thought about it so many times, but I didn’t know how I would arrange it. It would be great to meet again. He kinda feels like my soulmate.”
Vedder later got wind of her interview and invited Custers and her husband out to his show in Brussels.
Following the concert, the pair reunited.
