Tory Lanez Defends Himself After Model Suggests He Staged Alleged Colourism Video

Tory Lanez is speaking out about an incident that happened on the set of Nafe Smallz’s “Good Love” video.

In the video, Canadian artist Lanez can be seen dancing next to a black woman, but according to the rapper, the director (Capone x Guise) tried to sub her out with a lighter-skinned woman.

In the clip posted on Instagram, Lanez is dancing with the original women when she gets switched out. He calls for a time out, tells the new woman that while “she looks beautiful” he isn’t going to let the darker skinned woman be taken out.

“This is an On-Going problem in our community of entertainment that needs to stop,” Lanez captioned the video. “As a black man, Sometimes I’m going to joke about the black community just like we all do. BUT WHAT IM NOT GOING TO DO IS ALLOW ANY OF THESE DIRECTORS TO DE-VALUE OUR BLACK WOMEN … countless times I’ve seen directors swap out our women of [colour] for women of lighter complexion, or women with straighter hair ETC . … IT IS OUR RESPONSIBILITY AS ARTIST TO STAND UP AND NOT LET THIS HAPPEN .. it’s BEEN time to embrace our woman of [colour].”

You can see the finished music video below where the woman doesn’t even make that scene. Although, she can be spotted throughout the video in other clips.

Sultry Shen, the original model, questioned Lanez’s motives. “Where’s the scene then if Tory wanted me so bad. The director is the best director I know. Fake news,” she wrote.

Lanez then responded with his own post, calling the internet out for “tryna make light of truthful s**t.”

“This is the one and only time ima address this,” Lanez’s said. “I went out of my way to bring awareness to an important topic of discussion that never gets addressed. The internet has a funny way of tryna make light of truthful s**t. IF it was a publicity stunt why would I be doing it for someone else’s music video?”

“Mind y’all this video happened 3 months ago and a behind the scenes cameraman DM’d it to me the other day,” Lanez added. “All parties involved know what happened in the 30 minutes that I was at the shoot.”
