Boy George had an interesting suggestion when asked who could play him on screen in the upcoming biopic that’s being made about his life and career.
The Culture Club frontman, 58, was speaking to Nova’s Fitzy and Wippa when he was asked about the upcoming flick.
He told the hosts: “Yeah, it’s going ahead. It’s MGM. It’s being written and directed by Sacha Gervasi. Who did [2018 film] ‘My Dinner with Hervé’. Who is very cool.”
When asked who could play him, Boy George insisted he didn’t know before adding: “There’s been some really interesting suggestions. One of the most interesting suggestions was Sophie Turner.”
This isn’t the first time Turner, 23, has been compared to the musician, with her talking about her look-alike during a WIRED Web’s Most-Searched Questions skit recently.
Boy George continued, “[People will say] ‘She can’t play you she’s a woman,’ you know. But when I was 17, I would have loved to have been her.”
Turner has since posted:
The actress’s rep refused to comment when approached by ET Canada.
One person who wasn’t thrilled about the suggestion that Boy George could be played by a woman was Piers Morgan.
He said on “Good Morning Britain”, according to The Sun: “Boy George, in his biopic, presumably at some stage has sex with people. How is he going to do that if he doesn’t have the equipment?”
“There are reality checks to having Sophie Turner playing Boy George, one of which is: she’s a woman.”
Morgan added, “Does Wonder Woman get played by a man? No. When someone is a famous man like Boy George how can it be a woman playing [him]? Create your own damn character. Don’t take our characters, don’t take our pop stars, leave us alone.”
“It’s a very insidious thing that every male character, a woman wants to play, it’s creepy.”
