Bill Cosby was criticized after his Instagram and Twitter accounts shared a Father’s Day message Sunday.

The 81-year-old, who is currently serving three to 10 years in prison, spoke about slavery and racism in an old clip shared online.

The caption read, “Hey, Hey, Hey… It’s America’s Dad… I know it’s late, but to all of the Dads… It’s an honour to be called a Father, so let’s make today a renewed oath to fulfilling our purpose — strengthening our families and communities.”

Cosby was jailed in Pennsylvania in April 2018 for drugging and sexually assaulting Andrea Constand at his home outside Philadelphia in 2004.

The disgraced comedian’s spokesperson Andrew Wyatt spoke to USA TODAY about the Father’s Day post, insisting Cosby had asked him to post something online.

Wyatt revealed Cosby wanted to voice his support for a group called Man Up.

He explained, “Mr. Cosby’s (message) consisted of telling these men who have been incarcerated for many years, but are up for parole soon…to…take the word ‘disadvantage’ and remove the ‘dis,’ and start focusing on the advantage.

“That advantage is to be better fathers and productive citizens.”
