Netflix announced a new show last week but was met with immediate backlash.
“Prank Encounters”, which will be hosted by “Stranger Things” star Gaten Matarazzo, involves pranks being performed on “two complete strangers who each think they’re starting their first day at a new job.”
And while it was all intended to be a bit of fun, many online were decidedly unimpressed by a show pranking people simply seeking part-time employment, with some calling the premise “cruel.”
Netflix has now issued a statement to Metro in response to the backlash.
“The pranks in ‘Prank Encounters’ are spooky, supernatural, and over the top, and everyone had a great time,” Netflix explained. “All participants came in with the expectation this was a one-day, hourly gig and everyone got paid for their time.”
